Mrs. Gene Williams Nichols, 84, of Dunwoody, died September 10, 2016. Mrs. Nichols was born in Atlanta on May 13, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Jamie K. Williams, Sr. and Myra Pearle Fincher. She attended North Fulton High School in Sandy Springs. She worked for Fulton National Bank in Buckhead and then for Dr. Julian Kelly. In 1954 she married Joseph Nichols and they lived in Augusta while Mr. Nichols attended Medical College of Georgia. After his schooling they moved back to Atlanta for his residency at Georgia Baptist Hospital. They then moved to Moultrie, GA for five years where she earned her pilot license before returning back to the Atlanta area where they settled in Dunwoody. Mrs. Nichols also worked as the office manager for many years at Peachtree Colon and Rectal Clinic in Atlanta. In addition to her parents Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her brothers, Jamie K. Williams, Jr. and John Robert Williams; and sister, Annie Laura Shirling. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Nichols, Sr., M.D.; sons, Joseph Nichols, Jr., M.D. (Lynn), Mark Nichols (Herman Runyan), Walter Nichols (Lynne); grandchildren, Kelly Janicki (Craig), Sarah Nichols, Walt Nichols, II (Mayra). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Piedmont Hospital. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Patterson’s Arlington Chapel with Rev. Julie Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park.
