Gail Raysor Akers Thompson, 87, comforted by her family, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2017 in Atlanta. Gail was a native of Atlanta, born to Frank Marshall Akers Jr. and Hazel Culver Akers. She attended Agnes Scott College transferring to Wheaton College where she graduated with a degree in English Literature. She devoted her life to raising her family and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving Gail are her three daughters and son in laws, Katherine Lutz Self and Hugh Edward Self, Jr. of Cumming, GA., Margaret Lutz Riffe and Robert D. Riffe of Clarkesville, GA., Mary Gail Lutz and Mark L. Baker of Roswell, GA., and her son Stephen Paul Lutz and partner Todd C. Fatzinger of Atlanta, GA., three grandchildren, Jennifer Self Bonner, Jason Edward Self, Ashley Self Easton, and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives and friends. A graveside service in celebration of Gail’s life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at 11:00am in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery in Sandy Springs, GA. with Rev. Melanie Eyre officiating. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, Gail requested that donations may be made to Simple Needs GA. in memory of Gail Thompson. The family is providing a luncheon following the service for family and friends at Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant near Perimeter Mall.
