Elizabeth (Betsy) Covington Brady of Atlanta died on November 16, 2014 at the age of 85. Born July 30, 1929 in Atlanta, Mrs. Brady was the daughter and only child of Elizabeth Duncan Nailling and Sydney Sheffield Covington. She grew up in Hickory, NC and Atlanta, attended the Napsonian School in Atlanta, and then attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville where she was a Pi Beta Phi and Phi Beta Kappa, graduating in 1951. After graduation she worked for Life Magazine in Atlanta and married Charles Raith Brady originally of Paragould, Arkansas. During her husband’s career in the life insurance industry, the Bradys lived in Atlanta; Greenville, SC; Washington, DC; and Durham, NC. They retired to Reynolds Plantation outside of Atlanta. After Mr. Brady’s death, Mrs. Brady returned to Atlanta to be close to her daughter and family. Mrs. Brady was an avid community volunteer, and her activities included working with Literary Action, the Girl Scouts of America, and the Greenville, SC Art Museum. A devoted member of The Church of The Apostles, she assisted in the Children’s Ministry, Widows Fellowship, Prime Time Seniors, and Leading the Way International Ministry. Her lifelong interests included art, travel, reading, ancient history & archaeology, and politics. Mrs. Brady is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) Brady Orr and grandchildren Corinne Covington Orr and Kyle Cameron Orr. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 43 years, Charles Raith Brady and son-in-law, Lawrence (Larry) Cameron Orr. A visitation will be held at H.M. Patterson and Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 on Wednesday, November 19 from 5:30pm-7:30pm. A memorial service and reception will be held at The Church of The Apostles, 3585 Northside Parkway NW, Atlanta, GA 30327 on Monday, November 24 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of The Apostles or to Pace Academy, 966 West Paces Ferry Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30327.
