Edward (Pat) A. Johnston Jr., 85, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home July 26th, 2013 with his family present. He was born September 15, 1927 in Atlanta, GA and resided in Sandy Springs, GA for the past 32 years. He graduated from Tech High in 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he participated in the Navy V- 5 program and received an Honorable Discharge in 1947. In his younger days he was an avid outdoorsman and was one of the first non-Native Americans to explore the length of Linville Gorge outside of Ashville, N.C. (The Atlanta Journal and Constitution Magazine 11-22-53) He began his business career with Otis Elevator Company in 1948 and in 1979 at the age of 52 began the entrepreneurial stage of his life by co-founding American Elevator Company, serving the Southeast states and upon its sale in 1987 co-founded Clear Communications Group which became a pioneering company in the cellular telephone industry, owning and operating FCC licensed Cellular One operations in Kentucky and West Virginia. Clear eventually became one of the largest providers of wireless telecommunications engineering and construction services in the world He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Johnston and is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Ruth(Craddock)Johnston, a sister Jeanne Brown, a son Stephen F Johnston Sr, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Sandy Springs Chapel in Sandy Springs, GA. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Arlington Memorial Park in The Sunrise Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at Sandy Springs Chapel on Wednesday, July 31th, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can made in Pat's memory to:
