Douglas Houston Forsyth passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2019. He was born November 8th, 1935 in Alexandria, LA, the son of Harry P. and Katherine Harris Forsyth. He attended Tulane University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. in 1957, and continued his education in the School of Medicine earning a M.D. with Alpha Omega Alpha honors in 1960. His post graduate work entailed six years of serving our country in the United States Navy Medical Corps as a Lieutenant Commander from 1960-1966 at the U.S. Navy Hospital in Philadelphia. His medical studies continued in Atlanta at Grady Memorial Hospital as a Cardiovascular Resident until 1968 and as a Cardiology Fellow until 1969. For over thirty years Doug was in private practice as an Internist with a sub-specialty in Cardiology. He was a charter member of The Northside Hospital Staff having served a term as Chief of Medicine. He chaired several committees and continued to contribute to their education and research well after retirement. He was very active in the Medical Association of Atlanta having served roles with the Community Health Services Committee, The Graduate Medical Assembly Executive Committee, AMGA Chairman 1981-1982 and the Medical Advisory Committee to Blue Cross/Blue Shield. He was a member of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology, American Medical Association and the Atlanta Clinical Society. Doug also served as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Emory Medical School. Doug was a dedicated member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church having served as president of his Sunday school’s The Timothy Class. After retirement from private practice, he enjoyed taking classes at Emory in creative writing and poetry, and enjoyed reading and traveling. Of his many accomplishments and achievements, he was most proud of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty one years, Adrienne Jones Forsyth, his daughters Elizabeth Forsyth Williams (Taylor), Margaret Forsyth Harman (Chad) and cherished grandchildren Reagan Williams, Candler Williams, Nolan Williams, Lacey Harman and Eliza Harman. He was preceded in death by his brother Malcolm H. Forsyth. Memorial Services will be conducted on Monday, the 4th of February at one o’clock at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation and reception with the family following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
