Diane was born in Atlanta to Edward and Kathryn Fechtel alongside her twin sister Susan. She attended St. Pius and Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado, which she reminisced as some of her most adventurous days in "God's Country." She was a bowler and avid softball and tennis player. She also loved to play Bridge, and playing cards was a pastime with her family. She could wrap Christmas gifts like no one else and the gift inside was always thoughtful. She was a dedicated volunteer devoting countless hours to causes and organizations that touched the lives of many. Her passion for sports extended down to her children and she never missed a game. She was adored by many friends and countless cousins, all of whom were touched by her kindness and warmth. Her legacy of love and compassion will forever inspire those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her brother Edward J. Fechtel Jr. (Hester), her three children, Kathryn Deriso-Schwartz (Alan Webb Schwartz, Sr.), Leslie Deriso, and Dr. George Tharpe Deriso, III (Michelle) nephews Shawn Pittman, Keith Pittman, Edward J Fechtel III and Mims Deriso. Nieces Mary Ellen Fechtel Moseley, Mindy Deriso Allen and Terri Lynn Pittman Cooke. Eternal rest grant unto Diane, O Lord. May perpetual light shine upon her, and may she rest in peace. St. Pius X, pray for us.
O Lord Jesus Christ, let your passion be my strength to sustain, guard and protect me. Let your wounds be my food and drink to nourish, fill, and invigorate me. Let the shedding of your blood cleanse me of all my sins. Let your death obtain eternal life for me, and your cross lead me to everlasting glory. Let these constitute for me refreshment and joy, health, and uprightness of heart.
-St. Pius X (1835-1914)
