After 84 revered years of life, Dr. Charles W. Gorton died Sunday, February 10th, 2013 following a quiet and courageous battle with Parkinson ’s Disease. Proceeded in death by his wife, Judith C. Gorton and daughter, Tracy R. Gorton. This remarkable father, patient teacher and kind man is survived by son, Charles W. Gorton, Jr of Ball Ground, GA, daughter, Anne G. Malham and husband, Arnie S. Malham, grandchildren, Brickman Gorton Malham and Sydney Adele Malham of Nashville, TN. Dr. Gorton obtained his BS at Louisiana Tech, MS at Georgia Tech and Ph.D. at Purdue University. After two years as a Research Engineer at United Aircraft in East Hartford, CT, he began his 39 years as a professor at Georgia Tech from 1955 to 1994, teaching Mechanical and Chemical Engineering where innumerable scholars benefited from his passion toward learning and sharing. Charles was active at Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church by serving on the session two times, taught Sunday school along with other numerous activities. Graveside services officiated by Rev. Marthame Sanders will be held Tuesday, February 12th at 1:00 pm at Arlington Park with a Memorial Service immediately following at Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church at 2:30 pm.
