Billy Charles Hudson, Sr. passed away on December 15th, 2023 in Buford, GA after a brief illness. He was born June 7th, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama. After the death of his mother Bessie when he was a baby, Billy was raised by his maternal grandparents Joe and Docie Hudson. His aunts, Florence, Carrie and Everlean truly became sisters and participated in his upbringing. He remained close to each of them until their deaths.
Billy is survived by his daughter Lisa Hudson Ferguson (Steve Ferguson), his daughter Nanette Hudson Klinect (Paul Klinect), his grandson Michael Hudson (Katie Hudson), 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years Nancy Attaway Hudson, his infant son Stephen Gregory Hudson, his daughter Denise Hudson Averett, his son Billy (Butch) Hudson Jr, his granddaughter Katherine Klinect, his great grandson Cameron Hudson and his partner of 32 years, Carol Brantley.
After working almost 40 years with Southern Railroad (which merged into Norfolk Southern), Bill retired to Panacea, Florida and spent his next 34 years playing golf, fishing and traveling. An avid Alabama football fan, Bill would wear his spirit wear and greet friends with an enthusiastic “Roll Tide” during football season. Active in the community, Bill was a member of Ochlockonee Bay Methodist Church serving on the Board of Trustees for many years. Also known as a great host, Bill made sure that everyone was well fed and had a good time. He will be remembered for his loyalty to friends and family, his optimism, his generosity and his zest for life.
