Betty Pee Nord, age 86, passed away on October 5, 2015. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, October 17, at H.M Patterson and Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Family will receive friends from 11:00am until 12:00pm at Patterson's, Arlington Chapel. Betty Lou was born on October 2, 1929, in Washington, D.C., the second child of Mary Miller Jones and Howard Taliesin Jones. LuLu, as she was known, grew up in the Washington area. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1951 with a BA in English. In 1952 she married Robert Duane Pee (1924-1978). During their 26 years of marriage, they lived primarily in Atlanta where they raised their 5 children. Betty was also an integral part of the communities at Pace Academy and St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal School as she worked for many years in each school office. In 1984 she married Randell K. Nord (1935-2012). Their 28 years together were spent in Princeton, Atlanta, Amelia Island, San Francisco, and Skidaway Island, returning to Atlanta in 2011. Both of her husbands were officers of Kurt Salmon Associates, a global consulting firm. She was active in welcoming newcomers to the firm and mentoring their families. Betty was always happiest close to the ocean. She loved family time at the beach and on many sailing trips in the Caribbean. Betty was an avid patron of theatre and symphony. She had a passion for books and learning evident in her volunteer work at the Landings Library and regular attendance at Chautauqua Institution summer programs. She loved animals, and when at home her cat Hannah was her constant companion.
Betty is predeceased by husbands Robert D. Pee and Randell K. Nord, as well as her sister Mary Virginia Jones. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Robyn and Dave Cole, Elizabeth and Craig Owens, Virginia and Paul Ruths, Robert Pee and Scott Parker, Thomas and Lisa Pee, Elizabeth Nord Gorman and Christopher Nord; as well as her 13 grandchildren, Rachel and Amelia Cole, Leigh, Robert (Miriam) and Gabrielle Owens, Natalie and Logan Ruths, Emily, Robert, Alex and Wells Pee, Robert Gorman and Kelly Gorman Marie (Greg). She will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society (humanesociety.org) or to the Chautauqua Institution Foundation (ciweb.org).
