Barbara Ann died peacefully at her home after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. She fought extremely hard, but in the end, her body could not withstand the relentless effects of the chemotherapy and radiation.
Barbara Ann was born in Atlanta on June 14, 1946, and attended Northside High School. She loved her friends, family and church, and most days you would find her at Dunwoody United Methodist Church. She loved working with the theatrical productions at the church and the Holiday Festival each year. She was passionate about the holiday season; she was very generous and enjoyed making other people happy.
Before retiring and spending time with her beloved friends, she worked for Union Carbide for over 35 years. She started her career in customer service and grew into an Information Technology role implementing and supporting software. She was a successful career woman and loved her job at Union Carbide. She continued to remain close to her colleagues well after retirement. For the last 40+ years, she lived at Raleigh Square Condominiums. Her passion for hard work went beyond her career, as she actively served on the Condo Association board up until her death.
Barbara Ann had a lively and warm spirit. Her family was important to her, and she enjoyed spending her spare time with her brother, Jimmy, and her mother, whom she cared for until her death in 2006. Although she never had children of her own, she adored her nieces and nephew. She was always the ‘fun Aunt’. From an early age, she would take them on road trips to Florida and North Carolina. She also loved to spend her free time at her lake house on Allatoona Lake and at the beach with her dear friends.
Barbara Ann was preceded in death by her mom, Bertie Irene Watts, her father, James Albert Watts, and her brother, James Albert Watts, Jr. She is survived by her nieces and nephew, Mary Beth Watts Ottley (John Evans), Leslie Watts Suddath (Billy Suddath), James Albert Watts III (Trayece Watts), and Kathleen Watts (Chad Mediate). She also leaves behind grand-nieces and nephews, Dudley Ottley, Patrick Ottley, Ryan Suddath, Colin Suddath, Charlie Suddath, Paden Watts, Mary Jackson Watts, and Nika Watts. She will be greatly missed by her dearest friend, Kathy Kuntz, who was like a sister to her.
There will be a celebration of Barbara Ann’s life at Dunwoody United Methodist on November 8th at 2PM. There will be an open visitation with friends on November 7th at the Raleigh Square Condominium Club House at 7PM. Please join us and share your favorite stories.
