William J. McIntyre, 75, of Sandwich, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday August 20, 2018. Bill was born in Brighton, MA on November 11, 1942. He attended St. Columbkille School through high school where he excelled at sports. After graduation he joined the Army and served in various military bases in the South. Upon his discharge he went to work for what was then New England Telephone Company and started his incredible journey in the company now known as Verizon.
He started as a Central Office Technician and quickly rose in the ranks to an Installation Foreman then Manager of Coin Operations both in Boston. He then moved his family to Cape Cod to become Repair Manager. Not long after, he moved again to Vermont to take the job of District Manager for the State of Vermont. Again back in Massachusetts he became Division Manager/Legislative Liaison in Boston which led to his becoming Vice President of Massachusetts and eventually President and CEO of Massachusetts.
He loved spending time with his family, much of that time on his beloved boat the Brigadoon. He and his wife travelled the entire east coast, Maine to Florida in the Brigadoon but his favorite times were the weekends spent in Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. He was an avid reader and travelled the world for both work and pleasure.
Bill leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, Cathleen, a daughter Jennifer of Attleboro, a son Greg of Georgia, Vermont along with two children, Charlotte and Bridget. He was predeceased by his oldest son Bill, who’s loving companion Sue and her two daughters Jamie and Kelly have become part of our family. Bill also leaves behind his brothers, John and his wife Elinor, Robert and his wife Debbie and Richard and his wife Annie; a sister Maureen Madden and her husband Bill and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Patrick McIntyre and his wife Angie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24th, 2018 at Corpus Christi Parish 324 Quaker Meeting House Road East Sandwich, MA. Interment at Sandwich Town Cemetery. Visitation, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday August 23rd, 2018 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project and St. Jude Research Hospital for Children.
