Wayne Salvadore Bevacqua passed away peacefully in his home in Sandwich, Massachusetts on Saturday, April 20th. Wayne was born in Wareham, MA; grew up in Falmouth, Cape Cod Massachusetts; the youngest son of Sully Anthony Bevacqua and Irene Lillian Bevacqua. He is survived by his loving life partner, Linda Bonvie and her daughter Natalie and son-in-law Matthew, brother Ronald Bevacqua and his wife Marjorie; brother Norman Bevacqua and his wife Linda; sister Rosemarie Temprendola and her husband Robert; sister Bonnie Alexander and sister Lillian Morin and her husband Willie. Survivors also include Wayne’s daughter Terry Gorden and her husband Brian along with his grandchildren Audrey and Brian Jr. and his son John Paul Bevacqua. Wayne is predeceased by sister Phyllis Sylvester and brother-in-law Roney Alexander.
Wayne joined the United States Coast Guard at age 17 and served proudly and honorably for twenty two years in the capacity of Petty Officer, Hospital Corpsman Third Class and had been stationed at USCG Air Station, Cape Cod, Massachusetts; New London, CT; ATC Mobile, AL; USCG Center Cape May, NJ. He also served aboard USCG Vigilant and USCG Reliance. Wayne was a proud Recipient of several Good Conduct and Meritorious Unit Commendation Awards along with many Letters of Appreciation from Commanding Officers in acknowledgement of his service with distinction.
After retirement from the US Coast Guard, Wayne enjoyed spending time at family celebrations, boating and providing private tours along the New Seabury coast in Falmouth, MA in the summers. He also enjoyed serving his local community by providing small engine repairs; supporting Veterans in his daily life whenever the opportunity arose. His most recent endeavors and enjoyments included spending winters in his Florida home where he also enjoyed boating along the Southwest Florida Coast and loved his vegetable gardening, sharing his bounty with friends and family.
Wayne had a generous heart, was a kind and funny man whose life motto was and encouraged others to live by “Go Confidently in the Direction of your Dreams”.
We who loved Wayne as he loved us will miss him dearly; may his soul rest in peace.
Private family services to be held at Otis Air National Guard Base with Military Honors to be held at a later date.
