Philip B. Midgley of Forestdale died on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the age of 93. He was the loving husband of the late Rose L. “Lee” Midgley. Born January 15, 1919 to the late James and Diana (Forster) Midgley, he was educated in Lowell schools. Mr. Midgley was a veteran of the US Army and received a Bronze Star in the European Theatre during World War II. He worked as an engineer for New England Telephone for 35 years before retiring in 1981 and was also an amateur ham radio operator, call sign K1VGU. He was a member of the Round Hill Country Club, the Telephone Pioneers and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sandwich where he ushered for 20 years and worked in the thrift shop.
Mr. Midgley is survived by his children: Diane Daly and her husband Frank of New Port Richey, Florida, Nancy Maxwell and her husband Keith of New Carlisle, Ohio, Linda Muise of Bridgewater and Glenn Carey of Pembroke; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, January 20, 2012 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 159 Main Street in Sandwich. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to New England Village, 664 School Street, Pembroke, MA 02359.
