He was the son of the late James Joseph Shaughnessy and Mary Rose Shaughnessy (Ordway) both of Brockton and brother to Patricia Caswell of Eastham and Jane Shaughnessy of Brockton both deceased,
Peter graduated from Brockton Trade School in 1962 specializing in woodworking. He was a talented student and his senior year project, a mahogany leather top desk, won first prize in the annual American Industrial Arts Association. There were 40,000 entries from schools throughout the United States and Canada.
After graduating he worked for several years at Batson Building Supply in Brockton. Eventually starting his own business, Consolidated Woodworking, where he manufactured made to order furniture, cabinets and specialty items. He also did work for the Knapp Shoe Co. building a shoe store in the back of their box trucks. Thus, enabling them to take their product to the customer.
In 1967 Peter took a teaching position at Blue Hill Regional Vocational High School in the Structural Wood Department. Where he also earned his teaching degree. He was a well-respected teacher and a favorite of many students. Many of whom went on to colleges and technical Insitute's as well as formed their own business. After teaching there for 30 years he retired in 2006
Along with woodworking he enjoyed working on his truck and boat engines. Always ready to take something apart and put it back together. He loved being out on the water boating, fishing, and lobstering. For twenty years he spent his summers lobstering along with his wife on his FV the Miss Deb out of the Sandwich Marina.
Peter also had a great love of family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Teaching, loving and supporting them.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen to whom shared 55 years in marriage. He is also survived by his daughter Deborah Benedetto and husband Jim and his son Patrick Shaughnessy and his wife Jeanne. His grandchildren Patrick James and Sandra Shaughnessy and Sophia Benedetto. Also, several nephews.
He will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday January 9, 2023 at 11am, Corpus Christi Parish, 326 Quaker Meeting House Rd. in East Sandwich, MA. Burial will be private.
