Sandwich: Patricia R. Hamer, 70, of Sandwich died peacefully after a period of declining health on August 17, 2012 in Brewster. She was the loving wife of the late John J. Hamer and the daughter of the late Tobias and Beatrice Vig. Patricia, or “Patsy” as she was known to many, was raised and educated in New Bedford. After marrying, she and her husband moved to Cape Cod to raise their family. They resided in Harwich for many years before moving to Sandwich in 1982.
She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family most of all. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and enjoyed her weekly chats with extended family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and sewing. She also volunteered at the annual Thornton Burgess pet rabbit show as a judge and became known as the “bunny lady”.
Patricia is survived by her two daughters, Darlene F. Call (Chris) of Harwich, Colleen P. Cohen (Barry) of Mashpee; two sons Michael J. Hamer (Michele) of New York and Tobias J. Hamer of Florida. She also leaves 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, many dear cousins, nieces and nephews, and three wonderful sisters-in-law, Marie Vig, Eunice Souza, and Shirley Oliver. She was predeceased by her sister Diane Vig and brother Tobias Vig Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 7 at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, E. Sandwich. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
