Nathan S. Crowell of Mashpee died on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the age of 21 from Cystic Fibrosis - a life long battle. Nathan thought he was the light house that would weather the storm. He has a beautiful tattoo that depicts that very sentiment.
Born in Falmouth, he grew up in Sandwich and graduated from Sandwich High. Nathan is survived by his older brother Jason Crowell of Mashpee and his parents Christine Drew of Mashpee and Paul Crowell of Sandwich. Nathan resided with his mother, brother and step-father, Nick Silva. He also leaves his step-mother, Ellen Crowell and his grandparents, Ronald and Pauline Drew of Vermont and Howard and Judy Crowell of Sandwich.
Nathan enjoyed music and playing the guitar and his employment at the Marshland in Sandwich was very important to him. Nathan enjoyed friends and meeting new people. It was well known that Charlie Markol was Nathan’s right arm man and meant the world to him.
Nathan’s favorite place of fun and good memories was the Sandwich Boardwalk. He had a tattoo of the boardwalk in addition to numerous others. He was thoughtful about all his decisions and each tattoo had a special meaning/message.
Nathan’s attitude about life and his disease was to let nothing stop him and live his life without being hindered. His parents and brother were proud of Nathan’s strength and determination to live life while he could. Nathan did not spend time focusing on the negative or feeling bad for himself. In Nathan’s words, "change the channel and enjoy yourself."
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2012 in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A in Sandwich. Funeral services and burial are private. Donations in Nathan’s memory may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main Street, Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760.
