Mary Ellen (Walsh) Spinello, 57, of Sandwich, MA, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness, surrounded by her family on October 10th, 2015. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Joseph Spinello of Sandwich, and her two daughters, Kathleen Spinello of Boston and Emily Spinello of Sandwich. Mary Ellen is also survived by her parents, James and Barbara Walsh of East Sandwich, and her siblings, Karen Patchel of Sandwich, and Robert Walsh of Dedham, as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
Born on June 11th, 1958, Mary Ellen lived in Sandwich for over 40 years, graduating from Sandwich High School, Cape Cod Community College, and Boston College with a degree in Elementary Education. She retired in 2014 after many years with the Postal Service. Mary Ellen was a long time parishioner of Corpus Christi in Sandwich, and enjoyed teaching religious education with her daughter, Emily. God was with Mary Ellen throughout her illness, holding her hand and guiding her along the way.
Mary Ellen loved gardening, reading, cooking, doing yoga, relaxing at Sandy Neck Beach, walking her dog Ruby, and traveling around the world, but above all, she enjoyed spending time at home with her family. Her girls were the source of her strength, and the reason she fought as courageously as she did. Mary Ellen will long be remembered for her kindness and service to others, her optimistic attitude, and devotion to the Church.
A very special thanks to the Massachusetts General Hospital Oncology Department, particularly Dr. Andrew Zhu, Jill Clarke-Alexis, and Kristen Copenheaver-Smith, RN; her primary care physician Dr. Patty-Ann Krajewski; and the VNA of Cape Cod, especially Mary Preston, RN.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 15th from 5 to 8 pm at Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meeting House Rd, East Sandwich, MA, 02537.
