Mary C. Callahan, 77, of Springfield and Brewster, passed peacefully on May 25 in Brewster. Mary was a graduate of Regis College, class of 1959, and received a Masters Degree in Special Education from Westfield State College. She worked for the Springfield School Department for her entire professional career retiring as Supervisor of Special Education.
She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anne Shea Callahan, and is survived by her sister and brother in law, Virginia and John Jackson of East Sandwich, and nieces Anne Jackson Bell Luevano and her husband Paul of Wakefield, and Mary Beth Jackson of East Sandwich.
Mary, known as 'ReRe' to her nieces and their friends, was a devoted and loving aunt, who took her girls on many fun adventures, including skiing in Colorado, seeing the Rockettes in New York, and cruising to Bermuda. She was often found relaxing at the beach with a book club selection, attending the theater or symphony, out to lunch with friends, and at the salon, getting her nails painted bright pink. She loved a good party, live music, museums, traveling with family and friends, shopping at a good sale, Godiva chocolates, and a dry Rob Roy on the rocks with a twist. More than anything, Mary loved her family and friends.
A wake will be held on Thursday, June 4, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Nickerson-Bourne funeral home, 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA 02563.
