Margaret “Maggie” Stunkel, 92, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025 in Plymouth, MA surrounded by Jack, LeaAnne, Judi, and Karen. Born on December 27, 1932, to Myron Power and Norma Collins, in Longmont, Colorado where her heart will always remain, she was the beloved wife of Jack Stunkel for over 70 years.
Maggie and Jack shared a love story that belonged in fairy tales. Married in 1953 in Longmont, Colorado, they were devoted to one another for 71 years, their love never wavering. They showed their children and grandchildren what true love looks like and set the bar high for unconditional devotion that will be carried on for generations to come. Everyone who knew them knew they were always seen holding hands—a simple, constant reminder of the deep bond they shared. Jack and Maggie had numerous adventures traveling around the world together. Their love was celebrated with family and friends over the years in wonderful and unique ways, including an ice cream truck party at Stafford Hill for their 70th anniversary, where everyone gathered to celebrate their enduring bond.
Maggie was a devoted mother who poured her heart into raising her children and watching her grandchildren grow up. She was known for her love of family, her passion for gardening, cooking, golf, and reading - especially to children, and was always devoted to her beloved dogs. Her mac and cheese and chocolate chip cookie recipes are shared through the family with glee. Maggie cherished the outdoors and had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the mountains, birds, and animals. She was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother —willing to go to the ends of the earth for her family.
Maggie was deeply involved in her community, including being active in her church and the PEO. She had a love for music, especially her son Mark’s performances, and had a song for every occasion, with her toes always tapping! No one would ever know which song would be performed at the dinner table, but you could always count on a performance!
Her family takes comfort in knowing that Maggie is dancing with the angels to Mark’s guitar and is reunited with all her beloved dogs who crossed the Rainbow Bridge in her lifetime. They are incredibly grateful for the highest level of care and compassion that she has received at Stafford Hill Assisted Living.
Maggie was predeceased by her son, Mark (Karen), in 2024, her brother, Edward Power in 1952, and her parents, Myron in 1967 and Norma in 1992. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack; her daughters, Judi (Mark) and LeaAnne; grandchildren, Sarah (Brian), Anna, Michael, Melissa (Haydon), Jack (Emma) and Brian; and great-grandchildren Jack, Natalie, and Teddy. In addition, Maggie was predeceased by a pack of wagging tails that surely greeted her at the Rainbow Bridge as well, including Puff, Lucky, Duchess, Morty, Rocky, and Reddy who have been patiently waiting to greet her with the enthusiasm she deserves.
And just like the poem says, Maggie told us once and told us twice: all the seasons of life are better with a little love, laughter, and chicken soup with rice.
A small, private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St John’s Episcopal Church in Sandwich, MA.
