Margaret J. Shea, of East Sandwich, Mass., died Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the Royal Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Braintree. She was 75.
She was born on February 5, 1940, in Boston, the daughter of Justin E. and Marion (Brannelly) Power. She was a proud native of Mission Hill, and went to Mission High School where she was a cheerleader for the basketball and football teams and graduated in 1957.
She would go on to receive her Nursing degree from the Boston City Hospital, School of Nursing. Upon graduation she worked as a registered nurse at Boston City Hospital and then began working at Saint Margaret’s Hospital in Dorchester in the NICU where she found her passion and love working with babies. After taking time off to raise her four children, she returned to her nursing career at Glover Hospital in Needham close to her home where she said that was her “mad money”. She was a loving and caring nurse as a professional but also cared for and nursed those she loved, including her parents, friends and friends of children.
In October 1962, Margaret married the love of her life, Francis Joseph Shea, Jr., at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Roxbury.
Margaret enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and seeing many of the 7 wonders of the world, crocheting, playing all card games, gardening, singing and playing the piano. She was an avid beach goer and enjoyed her many trips to Twin Rivers Casino. She always enjoyed taking a ride in the car to take in all the colorful foliage. Margaret enjoyed being a grandmother most all. Her “treasures” made her life complete. She enjoyed having sleepovers, making meals, teaching them cards and spending quality time with each of them.
She was a loving and devoted mother to Laura Flavin and her fiancé Jeffrey Pullen of Thompson, Conn., Julie Shea and her husband Michael Dzengeleski of Dedham, Elaine Donoghue and her husband Paul of East Sandwich, and Francis J. Shea and his wife Deirdre of Braintree; beloved grandmother to 17 grandchildren; and great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren. Loving sister to Ruth Campbell of Weymouth, Richard Power of Norwood and Robert Power of Saipan and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her loving husband Francis, her parents, her siblings; Justin E. Power Jr., Leo Power, Mary Louise Brennan.
