John Beatey

John David Beatey passed away unexpectedly on the morning of December 31 at the age of 59 at his home in East Sandwich. Born on December 7, 1962 in Far Rockaway, New York, John was the third son of Robert W. Beatey Jr. (Tigard, OR) and Judith Gilfoy (Sandwich).

John grew up in Scituate, MA and graduated from Scituate High in 1981. In 1997, he married his high-school sweetheart, Christine, and moved to East Sandwich. A roofer by trade, he worked primarily on Nantucket for over 30 years and his work ethic was unmatched. He enjoyed spending time at the beach in Venice, FL and watching F1 racing and the Patriots, but mostly he cherished time with his family. His children were his true pride and joy. John was a good, kind, genial man who loved his family fiercely and who never hesitated to lend a helping hand.

John is lovingly missed by his wife of 24 years, Christine O’Brien, and their 3 children, Erica, Jenna, and Jack all of East Sandwich. In addition to his parents, John is also survived by his brothers Robert of Sandwich and David (Diana) of Nantucket, father-in-law Charles J. O’Brien, sister-in-law Cheryl O’Neill (Michael), brother-in-law Kevin O’Brien and brother-in-law Steven O’Brien (Wendy) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones. John is predeceased by his older brother James “Jimmy” Beatey, and his sister-in-law Carolyn (Malone) Beatey.

A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 6th at Corpus Christi Parish in East Sandwich, MA with a Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
