Jeanne was born in Biggleswade, England on February 15, 1929 to Marjorie (Taylor) and Arthur Peck, a butcher. In her late teens and early twenties, she showed thoroughbred dogs through the British Kennel Club. She met her husband John T. Barlow in England while he was serving in the US Air Force. When he was transferred back to USA she immigrated with him in 1963, making Bedford MA their home for 31 years. They then moved to Sandwich MA for an additional 22 years.
Despite losing her beloved husband 11 years ago and suffering a semi-debilitating stroke a year later, Jeanne was a familiar presence in Sandwich. Almost daily, with the aid of a walker, she would stroll along the Cape Cod Canal with her Japanese Chin, Teddi, a rescue dog. Her spunk, British accent, rye humor, love of dogs, and personal charm were captivating and easily turned passersby into friends.
She is survived by her son Stephen Barlow and his spouse Paul Moreno, sister Beryl McDonald, niece Deborah McDonald, nephew Artie Jackson, and several others.
Visitation will be held at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich on Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 2-5 PM. A service will be held the following day, Monday, November 21, 2016 at 12 noon followed by internment at the Massachusetts National Veterans’ Cemetery in Bourne.
Special thanks go to her longtime friend and caregiver Letitia King, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Boston.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cape Cod MSPCA Angell, 1577 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA 02632 (508-775-0940) or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute P.O. Box 849168 Boston, MA 02284-9168 (1-800-52-JIMMY)
