2022 after a brief illness. He was a traditionalist who believed firmly in and enthusiastically supported his family, his god and his country. You could depend on James Peter Walsh.
Jim was born in Nyack, NY in 1929 to James and Kathleen Walsh. He joined the Navy when he was seventeen and later transferred to the Air Force. After serving in Rhode Island, New Mexico, Massachusetts and Germany, Jim retired to Cape Cod near Otis Air Force Base.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Deeb in a beautiful ceremony after transferring to the Air Force because she wouldn’t accept him while his life was mostly at sea. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary before Barbara passed in 2021.
Jim and Barbara had three children, two daughters Mary Ellen Spinello (Joseph) and Karen Patchel (Robert), and a son Robert (Linda). Mary Ellen passed in 2015 nearly breaking her father’s heart. Jim was the very proud Poppa of six grandchildren; Brandon Patchel, Kathleen Spinello (Chris), Rachel Szymaniak (Adam), Max Walsh (Annalise), Ben Walsh (Nicole) and Emily Spinello.
James Walsh attended daily mass, participating in Church life and always supporting the Missions of the Church. He was grateful to the priests and clergy at Corpus Christi for always being there. He was especially grateful to Father Harrison, who with grace and kindness ministered to his Mary Ellen, Barbara and himself.
Jim was a man of many interests. He delighted in the beauty of sunshine, often sitting in his very well cared for backyard and feeling the warmth on his face. He enjoyed flying, golfing, riding his bike along the canal, bird watching, being on time, tools, technology and the companionship of friends. He loved his home in Lakewood Hills and was so very grateful for the kindness and care extended by his neighbors during his last few years.
Jim Walsh lived a long, proud and devoted life. He was a husband, father and grandfather who was grateful for the family he had and who cared for him. He was a patriot who served his country knowing that the honor to do so was his. He was a Catholic who believed in the blessings of God. James Peter Walsh was proud and devoted to his family, his country and his God. These things have taken him home.
His family would like to extend their very great appreciation of the loving care given to James by the staff while he was at the Pavilion in Hyannis, once again proving that not all angels are in heaven.
A brief wake and mass service will be celebrated at Corpus Christi in Sandwich at ten o’clock on September 8, 2022, followed by a burial the National Cemetery in Bourne.
