Glenn Clayton Burke of Sandwich passed away on February 26, 2023 at his home with his wife by his side after a courageous battle with cancer and heart disease. Born in Wareham, MA, he was the son of Thelma (Embroult) Burke and the late James Clayton Burke, and lived his entire life in Sandwich. He was an unstoppable force of energy and determination, and a man of great moral character with an infectious laugh.
His greatest passion was helping others, followed by a love of all things mechanical. Glenn was adored as “Mister Fixit Man”, and had magical skills from automotive to construction to shucking scallops. After graduation from Sandwich High School & Upper Cape Tech, Glenn’s career took him from his own Companies in automotive repair and excavation, to Maintenance and Property Director at local non-profits and educational facilities.
Glenn was a true Cape Codder; his hobbies of fishing, mountain biking, hiking and adventuring were second only to his stories. Give Glenn a lobsta and a beer and you’d hear tales of high seas, ghosts of Cape Cod past, and herding cats. Glenn loved everyone and everyone loved Glenn…our hearts are broken with the loss of his endearing presence. His quiet faith sustained him during the last difficult years. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Glenn is survived by his loving wife Karen S. Michels, beloved son Jeremy James Burke and his partner Jesus Salazar, brothers Timothy Burke (Chrissy) and Wayne Burke, former wife Alice Greenwood, stepsiblings Steve, Donna, Karen, Kathy and Cheryl and is predeceased by his stepsister Pam. He leaves behind so many that were precious to him; cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends from every part of his life.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and Internment will be private.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA, 02215.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sagamore Inn on Sunday May 7th. Please let the family know you can attend here https://evite.me/VSGEfEceq2
