He was born on July 26, 1938 in Boston, the son of Mary (Ford) and Francis Joseph Shea, Sr. He was a native of Hyde Park, and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School, Boston, in 1956. He went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 until his discharge in 1960.
In October, 1962, Frank married the love of his life Margaret J. Power at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Roxbury. Loving father to Laura Flavin and her fiancée Jeffery Pullen of Thompson, CT, Julie Shea and her husband Michael Dzengeleski of Dedham, Elaine Donoghue and her husband Paul of E. Sandwich, and Francis J. Shea and his wife Deirdre of Braintree. Cherished grandfather and uncle to 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Frank worked as a state bank examiner from January 1965 until January 1967 until he became branch manager at Union Warren Savings Bank. After moving up the ranks and later graduating from Brown University School of Banking in July 1975, he became Vice President. After a merger with Home Owners Savings Bank in 1987, he was made Executive Vice President where he stayed on until he became President of Wellesley Bank in 1991 where he worked until he retired as President and Chairman of the Board in 2004.
Included in his many accomplishments, he was elected Wellesley Chamber of Commerce Businessperson of Year in 1997. As an active member of the Merchants Assoc. in Wellesley he resurrected 2 very successful activities, the Holiday Family Day and July Jubilation.
Frank was an avid golfer who was a member of Norfolk Golf Club, Westwood, MA where he was President. In later years, he was a Founding member of the Ridge Club in South Sandwich, MA where he and his best friend, Tom Scherber, won the Member Guest in 1995.Over the years, he was an active member of many organizations including the Clover Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis and Boys and Girls Club. He was a devout Catholic and active member of Corpus Christi Parish. He sang in the choir and volunteered for various functions. He enjoyed traveling and playing cribbage and bridge. His pride and joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and his sister, Mary Pascarelli. of Quincy, MA.
A visitation with the family will be held on Monday, January 11, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meeting House Road, East Sandwich, 02537.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 12, at 11:00 AM, at the Corpus Christi Parish. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Francis’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 473 South St W # 13, Raynham, MA 02767.
