Elaine Lucille Sawyer, age 69 (born Elaine L. Rogers later adopted by George Hobbs) went home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. Elaine was born in Weymouth, MA on January 1, 1949.
Elaine was the beloved wife of Normand F. Sawyer and took pride in being a wife and mother. She was the beloved mother of Leanne M. Grace and Kimberly M. Vautrinot both of Hyannis, MA; the late Donald C. Vautrinot Jr. of Bradenton, FL; Karen M. Quinn of Marstons Mills, MA; and Daniel J. Sawyer of Sandwich, MA. Additional family were sisters Judy Swank of Brooksville, FL; the late Janis Johnson of Pembroke, MA; her brother James J. Hobbs of Marstons Mills, MA; as well as 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She attended Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston. Later, Elaine studied Art through a correspondence course after which she painted beautiful beach scenes as well as other artistic collectibles. Her other hobbies were gardening and holistic medicine. She was a member of Christ Chapel in Centerville.
She was an avid baseball fan (Red Sox of course) and rarely missed watching from home. Elaine was very patriotic and took pride in the fact that her birth parents, James J. Rogers and Kathleen M. McKay, both deceased, were married during World War II while serving in the U.S. Navy. Her son Daniel J. Sawyer also served in the U.S. Army and her grandson Donald “Colson” Vautrinot III is a U.S. Marine. She attended as many memorial services, parades and fireworks as she could while she pondered the sacrifices made by the U.S. military.
A funeral service and celebration of life will take place at Christ Chapel located at 1200 Old Stage Road in Centerville, Massachusetts. Please join us at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 14, 2018.
