Edward F. McCann Jr., 90, of Sandwich, MA passed away on January 22, 2023. He is survived by his wife Jean with whom he shared over 61 years of marriage. She lovingly cared for him for the past several years.
Ed was born in Mapleville, Rhode Island. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he attended Bryant College in Providence, RI and went on to receive an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He worked as a financial forecaster at IBM for over 30 years with most of that time spent in Poughkeepsie, NY where he and his wife raised their family. After his retirement, he moved to Sandwich, MA and enjoyed reading on East Sandwich beach and playing tennis and pickleball. Ed traveled all over the world with his wife, could always be found on the dancefloor, never said no to a party, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Additionally, he was a long-time volunteer with HopeHealth Hospice of Cape Cod.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mary McCann and his sister Joyce McCann. He is survived by his sister Marilyn Lavelle and brother Russell McCann and many nieces and nephews.
His family was always his priority in life, and he will be deeply missed by daughter Ellen Scott and her husband John of Sandwich, MA, son Gregory McCann and his wife Debbie of Mechanicville, NY and daughter Jennifer Bonner of Wayland, MA. He was affectionately known as PopPop by his grandchildren Zachary, Samuel and Kaitlyn Scott, Shaun McCann and Riley, Aidan and Dylan Bonner and step grandchildren Shannon De Almeida and Shelbey Blair. He also leaves behind step great grandchildren Atlas Blair and Hudson De Almeida.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bridges in Mashpee, MA and the Continuum Hospice & Palliative Care - Cape Cod for caring for Ed in his final months.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road in East Sandwich, MA on Monday, February 6th at 11am. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery; Bourne, MA.
