Deborah J. “Doobie” Stanley of Sandwich, Massachusetts died at 62 on Thursday, November 10th after a grueling battle with physical ailments. She was the daughter of George and Jackie Stanley and is survived by siblings Patricia J. Schermerhorn, George A. Stanley, James D. Stanley, nieces Jenna W. Galster, Kaela Avitatible, and Shea Barron and great nephews Brycen Galster and Mason Lane and great niece, Maeve Avitabile. Doobie was born in Oxnard, California in 1961 and moved to Sandwich, MA at a young age and remained as a member of the close-knit Sandwich community.
Doobie graduated from Sandwich High School where she played out her passion for basketball. She graduated from Westfield State College and joined the work force. Early on she worked at the United States Military Base Cape Cod in Human Resources and later she worked for Verizon and several of its off-shoots. Most recently she was employed at TD Bank in Sandwich as a customer service representative where she greeted friends and local town folk on a daily basis. She spent several years volunteering for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sandwich.
Doobie’s roots were in Sandwich. Her favorite place was Town Neck Beach where she would be found seated among her friends on bright sunlit days engaged in free conversation and good will. Her recognizable laugh could be heard easily. A glance at her car would reveal a pair or trio of outlined cats representing the pets that she adored. She loved the New England Patriots and could identify both great and suspect plays. Doobie was a tenacious returner of merchandise that was either mistakenly purchased or not shipped correctly; if it could be returned, she got the job done. Christmas was her favorite time of year and her home decorations were beautiful and charming.
A visiting hour will be held on Friday, November 18th at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home; 154 Rt. 6A in Sandwich at 11:00am with a service on site at 12:00pm. A private family interment will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Debbie’s name be sent to The Friends of Plymouth Pound in Kingston, MA.
