Deanna M Kidd-Szymczak, age 84, of Sagamore, MA and Pompano, FL, passed away on August 4, 2022 in Plymouth, MA. Deanna was the dear daughter of the late Theron “Dewey” Dustin and Eleanor (Fielding) Dustin. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 23 years, Michael Thomas Szymczak.
After graduating from Malden High School, Deanna followed her passion for becoming a music teacher. She graduated from Lowell State Teachers College and went on to obtain her Master’s Degree in Music Education at The Boston Conservatory. She became the supervisor of music at the Lexington Elementary School System for 10 years. Her career led her to become the first female professor at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where she taught for 35 years. Deanna’s career included singing with Sarah Caldwell at the Opera Company of Boston, singing with Lou Colombo and pianist Dave McKenna, performing with the band “Saints Alive” at the former Dorsey's Restaurant in Yarmouth, performing with “Stage Door Canteen Big Band”, and lovingly performing with her husband in various jazz groups on Cape Cod, Boston, and South Florida. Throughout her career, she sang as a soloist in many Cape Cod and Boston area churches.
Deanna will be truly missed for her beautiful, melodic, voice, her tantalizing cooking, and her willingness to always serve others. In addition to her husband, Deanna is survived by her loving brothers and sisters: Sharon (Paul) DeSisto, Stephen (Mary) Dustin, and Randall (his late wife Joan) Dustin. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters and brother: Glennie Jones, John Dustin, and Eileen Burns.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 4-7 PM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Rt. 6A, SANDWICH, MA. One hour of visitation will follow on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 10-11 AM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, SANDWICH, with a Celebration of her Life beginning at 11:15 AM.
