Anne Marie (Ackerman) Hamilton of Sandwich, Massachusetts, passed quietly from this life into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 22 at 8:30am at Cape Heritage Nursing Home. She was the greatly beloved wife of Perry J. Hamilton who died in November 30, 2003. She leaves behind the children that she always considered to be the greatest achievement of her life Jennifer J. (Hamilton) Divine and her husband, Patrick; Paula C. (Hamilton) Dickinson and her husband Gary, and James A. Hamilton and his wife, Sissy. Also, bereaved are 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Anne was born Annie Ackerman on January 19, 1923 in Ottawa, Canada, the Daughter of Wilbert Raymond Ackerman and Flossie Edwina (Taylor) Ackerman. She had one Brother, Morley who pre-deceased her. She lived most of her young life in Coaticook, Quebec, and moved to Bennington, Vt. as a young woman to attend Saint Joseph's Business College.
It was in Bennington that she met the love of her life, Perry. They were married in Windsor Locks Connecticut on November 20, 1943. Perry was on leave from the Army Air Corps and shortly was sent to Europe. They were, undeniably, the most mutually devoted, and loving couple possible in this life. It is assured that their romance continues in Paradise at this day.
After the war, the early part of their married lives were spent having, raising and devoting their time and love to their three children. In 1961 they retired from the Air Force and moved to Williamstown Ma. where Anne began to work as a secretary at the North Adams Hoosic Savings Bank. She retired from there as an assistant treasurer in 1984. During her life in Williamstown she was a member of The First Methodist Church and active in Sunday School and Youth Group ministries.
In 1986 she moved to Sandwich, where they resided on John Ewer Road. Anne kept herself busy with work in the Nursery at the First Church in Sandwich and with caring for Perry until his death in 2003, and communicating with friends and family.
She loved the ocean and was always up for a walk on the beach or along the Canal.
Anne loved children and was a devoted mom and grandparent, never missing a birthday or failing to share her time with them whenever possible. Anne always had a great faith in people and the ability to see the best in people, no matter what they had done. She will always be remembered for her great sense of humor amid the inability to tell a joke, her enjoyment of friends and travel, her indefatigable letter writing, her faith in her Savior, her love of poetry and Shakespeare and scripture, and her strength and endurance for whatever task she was set to do. Anne also loved dogs and the Red Sox. She is, and will always be greatly missed by those many whose lives she touched.
Arrangements under the direction of the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, Sandwich, Massachusetts.
