A lifelong San Rafael resident, Bill Dodson passed away this week at his home in Marinwood. Bill attended St. Raphael's Elementary School and graduated from from San Rafael High School in 1945. In March of 1946, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy, in the months subsequent to World War II. He would later serve during the Korean Conflict, with his final active service date coming in January, 1952.
Bill earned his Bachelor of Science from Heald Engineering College of San Francisco in 1950. He began working for Pacific Gas and Electric in 1952. He retired from PG&E in a leadership role, as a Design Engineer, in 1987.
Bill married his wife, Sunny, of San Francisco, in 1965 and shortly after they moved into their Marinwood home where they started and raised their family.
Bill was a devout Catholic, a parishioner St. Isabella's Church in Terra Linda. In addition to spending time with his family, Bill was a community volunteer, an active alumnus, a historian and a sports fan.
Bill is survived by his three children Beth (Steve) White of Petaluma, Dana Dodson of Novato and John (Sharon) Dodson of Rancho Murieta. Bill has five grandchildren, Tyler and Kyle White of Petaluma and Jason, Alexis and Devin Dodson of Rancho Murieta. Bill is also survived by his brother Jim Dodson of Sun City, Arizona and sister JoAnn Stockwell of Mariposa.
Bill was pre-deceased by his parents Walter and Josephine, brothers Bob and Gene Dodson and his beloved wife of over thirty years, Sunny Dodson.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to St. Vincent's School for Boys.
