Robert ("Bob") Donald Hadley Passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012, following a sudden illness. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his wife of 41 years, Vivian Hadley, his son Larry Hadley and wife Kim of Petaluma, his daughter Virginia Hadley-Wathen and granddaughter Jordan Wathen also of Petaluma. In addition he is also survived by his brothers Robin Hadley of San Rafael, Donald Hadley of South Carolina and Jack Hadley of Santa Rosa and many nieces and nephews. Robert was born on July 2, 1927 in Martinez, California. During World War II he first served two years in the US Merchant Marines and then another two years as a military policeman with the US Army. After the war he spent a short time working as a claims adjuster for Transport Indemnity out of San Francisco. He then joined and ultimately became one of the principals and then sole owner in the highly respected Belvedere based Construction Company of Ireland Robinson & Hadley Inc., which continued until his 1994 retirement from the construction industry. With his wife Vivian, he lived in Belvedere-Tiburon for more than 40 years and was a contributor to, participant in and fixture at Belvedere-Tiburon civic events, the local boating community and his neighborhood. He was a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club, serving on the board, and a member of Carpenters Union Local 35 in San Rafael. During his 18 years in retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to his mountain retreat where he was an ardent enthusiast of gardens and landscaping. He also enjoyed making regular trips to the Belvedere office bringing by the mail and just checking in. His broad smile, hearty handshake and wisdom will be deeply missed by all. A private viewing will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Keaton's Mortuary, 1022 E. Street, San Rafael, CA from 5 to 7 p.m.. There will be a public Memorial Service at St. Stephen's Church Belvedere on Thursday February 9, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with a reception to follow immediately in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, a memorial remembrance to an organization of your choice in Robert's honor would be appreciated and respected by the family.
