Barbara Ruth Adams passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 14, 2024, with her husband, Ken - the love of her life - holding her hand. She was born on October 6, 1942, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, to her loving parents, Walton and Mamie Manley and grew up on a farm in Devol, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Manley and grandson, Grant Stricklin. Her surviving family includes her husband, Ken, daughter Holly Adams and granddaughter Mallory Stricklin of Parker, Colorado, brother Neil Manley of Burkburnett, Texas, and dearly loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Barbara lived the past 40 years in Marin County where she was known for her extraordinary artistic and musical contributions. Barbara graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.A. degree and began her career as a music teacher to elementary students in Denver. Classically trained as an oratory Soprano, Barbara graced the world with her glorious voice. She performed with numerous choirs, opera guilds and a special “Diva” trio in Marin. She met her beloved Ken, husband of 45 years, in a church choir in Denver where she planted a seed for the choir to embark on an international tour. Barbara and Ken performed with the choir in many Cathedrals in Europe, including 11am Sunday morning service at Notre Dame Cathedral. Barbara served as the President of the Marin based, Thursday Musical Club for several years.
As a gifted artist, Barbara, created her own business (the Victoriana Rose Lady) and offered personalized commissioned paintings, including exquisite hand-painted furniture and porcelains. Barbara surrounded herself with beauty, and her passion for art and music inspired her friends and students to develop their own talents. Even though Barbara suffered for years from rheumatoid arthritis, she always remained positive and lived a very active life, freely sharing her love, wisdom and talents to friends and family. Barbara’s loving spirit will continue to surround those who were fortunate to know her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on January 26, 2024, at 2pm at Keaton’s Mortuary, 1801 Novato Blvd., Novato, CA. A reception will follow in the same location. All are welcome to join in the celebration of this amazing, beautiful woman.
