Allan was born and raised in Kentfield, CA. He graduated from Tamalpais High School, then graduated from the University of Oregon. After college, he spent his working years in the insurance industry, based out of San Francisco. Allan was a lifelong athlete, and could be found at the gym every day, well into his 80's. He played basketball and baseball throughout his high school and college years. Post college, he joined the Washington Generals, and toured the world with the Harlem Globetrotters.
Allan's passion was the San Francisco Giants. In 1967, he was the founding member of the legendary Giants Booster Club, and was even part of a group that submitted a bid to purchase the Giants in 1975. Every year, from Spring Training through the World Series, Allan was living and breathing baseball. Allan also loved to play cards, particularly poker. He spent many days in the card rooms of Las Vegas and Marin County, having adventures, and building lifelong friendships. A dog lover from a young age, Allan would spend his afternoons cruising around town with a car full of dogs, always ending with an extended stay at the Red Hill Dog Park.
Allan is survived by his nephews, Alex Murray, Gene Murray, and Gary Murray; niece, Lauren Giacomini; great nephews, Reid Murray and Carson Murray; great nieces, Britt Giacomini, Nina Giacomini, and Payton Murray. He is also survived by his longtime caretakers/companions Bill Kehrer and Moira McNeill.
Allan was preceded in death by his brother Edwin R. Murray Jr., and sister Elinor.
A memorial service will be held at Keatons Mortuary on September 30th at 2pm, 1022 E St, San Rafael, CA 94901.
