she fought bravely.
Daughter of William and Thelma Kayser of San Jose, CA, Susan attended St. Clare’s,
Notre Dame, and then Santa Clara University graduating with a degree in History. After marriage, Susan
moved to Hollister, CA and became mother to Mike and Sean while beginning a 40-year career in social
work. In her 40’s, Susan went to graduate school at San Jose State University and became an LCSW;
retiring from Santa Clara County, where her final position was at the main jail as a mental health
specialist. Susan worked tirelessly to provide for her sons, who were the center of her universe, and
raised two successful men. She enjoyed travel, especially cruising the Mexican riviera and the
Caribbean.
She is survived by her sons, Mike and Sean, Mike’s wife Cynthia, her three grandsons:
Michael, Emmett, and Conor, and four sisters. Her greatest joy was jumping on the trampoline or going
to the park with her grandsons. She loved cooking shows, while unabashedly proclaiming that she could
not cook. She was an avid reader, who loved a good murder mystery, and absolutely loved gardening.
She is irreplaceable and will be terribly missed. We are greatly diminished.
A celebration of life will be held at Oak Hill in San Jose, CA on Saturday, Nov-20 at 1 PM. In lieu of
flowers please consider a donation to the American Autism Association. Susan’s favorite colors were
purple, yellow, and white. Please don’t be compelled to wear black. We are celebrating a life well lived.
