Scott R. Sells, CCFE, market director for Service Corporation International, was elected president during the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association 2017 Annual Convention & Exposition, April 5-8, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Prior to relocating to the San Francisco Bay area, he served as area vice president for Service Corporation International in Hawaii. Scott served on the ICCFA Board of Directors from 2002 to 2005, and more recently as the 2012-2013 vice president of external affairs and the 2013-2014 vice president of education.
Scott has served as a member of the ICCFA Sales and Marketing Committee, as co-chairman of the 2001 Sales Management & Marketing Conference and as chairman of the 2002 Fall Management Conference. In 1999, he graduated from the association’s premier educational program, ICCFA University, and he was awarded the Certified Cemetery Funeral Executive (CCFE) designation in 2000.
He is a past president of the Colorado Association of Cemeteries and served on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Allied Memorial Council and chaired the organization’s membership/nomination, government & legal affairs and political action committees.
Active in community civic organizations, Scott works as a fundraiser for the San Jose Police Department and is a member of the Honolulu Police Department Deputies. He is a member of American Legion Post 318. Founded in 1887, the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association is the only international trade association representing all segments of the cemetery, cremation, funeral and memorialization profession. Its membership is composed of more than 9,100 rooftop locations and 20,000 professionals in the cemetery, funeral home and crematory industries, as well as supplier and related businesses worldwide.
Scott is survived by his wife Lina Sells, daughter Isabella Sells, father Rich Sells, mother Nancee Sells, sister Shannon Oprea, brother-in-law Craig Oprea and nephew Dylan Oprea.
A Celebration of Life, casual Aloha wear, will be held at 3PM on Friday, October 4, 2019 at Oak Hill Memorial Park in front of the Great Mausoleum. A luau will follow immediately after the service.
