Dear Sally: What do I remember? I remember that we met on that fam trip to Phoenix. Was it 1983? We were roommates; and instant friends. A life-changing trip; one of the best. Even with the tragedy of losing Betty. (I think that was her name; she was from Orange County.) That only served to bring us closer. I remember driving to your house the week after we got home, to order flowers for Betty's funeral. I remember setting my keys on the table and you picked them up thinking they were yours. We had the same key chain. I still have mine. I remember your sense of humor and your laugh. I can hear your voice answering the phone at work, "OSI Travel, this is Sally". I remember that you called your mom Barbie. I remember being envious of your sense of style. Your red lipsticks (you had so many), the scarves hanging on your bedpost, the way you decorated that cute house (probably unintentional), and the fact that you knew how to make a real Caesar salad (and did so often). I remember how much you liked coffee. But most of all, I remember how much you loved Page. You were my best friend all those years ago, and when life and circumstances changed for each of us, I missed you terribly. I remember thinking at times that I couldn't do what I needed to do without you. I did try to find you. But I don't think I tried hard enough, and I am sorry. Now there is no more wondering. Now you know all the secrets. All those things I wanted to share. The loss of my daughter, the birth of my son. Now you know. I will miss you always.

Perhaps my most endearing memory of Sally took place in her home. The two of us were dancing to  "Let's Get Together--Yeah,Yeah,Yeah", the song Hayley Mills sings to Brian Keith and Maureen O'Hara in the Disney movie "The Parent Trap".

For one fleeting moment, it was as if she was walking on air, not a worry in the world and with an effervescent smile which illuminated the room.

This is how I shall remember Sally. It's the memory I will hang my hat on.

I also would like to express my deepest sympathy for the loss of your loved one.  Although I lost touch with Sally over the years, both my husband and I were saddened to learn about Sally's passing.  I remember when I first met Sally during the time when we both worked in Los Altos, we became good friends very quickly.  Sally was a happy person, with a contagious smile, great laugh (and sense of humor), and she had a big heart.  Sally was a devoted mother to her son, "Page" (as we knew him), and my daughter (Tonya) and Page became childhood friends.  We are so sorry for your loss.  (Sally, may you rest in peace.) I just wanted to express my condolences as I believe that this was a childhood friends mother. My mom told me she saw this in the San Jose Mercury Obit.'s and told me it was "Page's mom", although the name of her son is listed as Jeremy Page Olson. I am deeply sorry for your loss if this is the same person...
