Rogelio Balderas Cardenas, age 95, died at his San Jose home on Sunday, January 10, 2021, after a brief illness. A native of Nava, Coahuila, Mexico, he immigrated to the United States in the early 1950s with his wife and young family, ultimately settling in San Jose. While San Jose was where he lived, Nava was his home and he visited there regularly.
Driven by a strong work ethic, he encouraged his children to pursue education as an avenue to a better future. As an attestation of his success, the Balderas Family received the 1995 La Familia (Community Engagement) Award given to a family of Latino origins for work in the community.
Rogelio's passions were music, dance and gardening, and he was outspoken – never backed off on his opinions!
His wife of 73 years, Antonia Guadalajara Balderas, predeceased him in 2017. Rogelio is survived by four generations of his extended family, including children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He will live on in our hearts and memories and be missed by all.
Liturgy of the Word at 11 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2021, officiated by the Rev. Rudy Ruiz at Lima Family Erickson, 710 Willow Street in San Jose, CA. Interment to follow at 12:45p.m., Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 2655 Madden Ave., San Jose, CA.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitation at Lima Family Erickson is limited to 60 attendees. The family plans a celebration of life for their patriarch when social restrictions are lifted.
