On the morning of May 26, 2021, Robert Gerome Macalalad passed away at the early age of 37 in his hometown of San Jose, California. He was born on April 10, 1984 at Alexian Brothers Hospital, now known as Regional Medical Center of San Jose. Even with his constant battles with mental and physical illnesses, he continued to shine with a positive attitude and brighten any room he was in. No matter how difficult it was to fight off his demons, he found courage and strength from not wanting to let his loved ones down.
He took his innate traits of being kind and generous and turned it into a career by becoming a registered nurse. He was extremely disciplined and studious with his schooling. During family parties, he would bring his books and assignments knowing the importance of finishing college. He achieved his goal in the fall of 2008 at San Jose State University by graduating with cum laude honors and receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree.
Robert mainly enjoyed one thing: being around people. Whether it be downtown at the bars or just hanging out in the garage, as long as he was with friends and family he was happy. Making those around him laugh and smile, even at his own expense, was what he lived for. He was devoted to his family, and they were equally devoted to him; there was never a shortage of support in the Macalalad house. He will be survived by his parents, Noel Geronimo Macalalad and Elenita Santos Macalalad, his brother, Ronli Gerome Macalalad, his sister, Aireen Keith Macalalad, and a plethora of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. To celebrate his short but beautiful life, please join us on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in the Chapel of the Oaks at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, CA 95125, at 1:00-3:00pm for his viewing and service.
