Rick Newell Ellis passed away with his devoted wife Pamela holding his hand, surrounded by family and friends. Rick lost his two year battle to cancer
Rick was born in Idaho Falls, ID, graduated from Pocatello High School and went on to attend Idaho State University. He followed his love of aviation with a 33 year career at American Airlines starting in Chicago. After several promotions throughout the country, he came to San Jose in 1989 . He met his future wife and they married in 1995. In June of 1995 Rick was promoted to head the Cabin Service Department for American Airlines, DFW. In 1999 he had the fortunate opportunity to return to San Jose as Manager of Ramp Services. Rick left American Airlines in 2001 after the 911 attacks. In 2002 he purchased Action Pool and Spa, serving pools and spas from Gilroy to Atherton. He was a very hard working man, making sure he took care of his family first.
In 2011 Squamous cell cancer was diagnosed in Rick's throat. Receiving radiation and chemotherapy treatments, the cancer continued mastesize to the lungs in September of 2012. In March of 2013 this dreaded disease had gone to his brain and eventually attacked his spine and organs. He fought strong to the end.
Rick's enjoyment in life was his family, in-laws and close friends. He loved camping, fly-fishing, the mountains of Idaho and the beach. His tremendous loving spirit and sense of humor will always be remembered.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife Pamela; children Travis (Jennifer) of Shiner, TX and Heather Ellis; grandsons Jake, Rick and Kyle Hill of Los Alamos, NM., sister Bobette Heath (Mike) and brother Patrick (Corinna) of Pocatello, ID., and dearly loved in-laws Earl and Kathryn Oliver of San Jose, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 24th, 2013; 11:00 a.m. at Lima Family Erickson, 710 Willow Street, San Jose, 95125.
