Peggy Ruth Elzarian Burr

Peggy was born on March 30, 1947, in San Francisco, CA and spent most of her childhood in Kingsburg, CA. After graduating from Kingsburg High School, Peggy attended Fresno State University - where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English. She met the love of her life, Douglas Burr, while working for the Fresno Bee. Peggy and Douglas were married on May 2, 1970, in Carmel, CA. After living in Fresno, CA; Indonesia; and Garden Grove, CA, Peggy moved with her husband to Covington, WA in 1985. Peggy became extremely fond of Washington State in the 9 years that the couple lived there, and it was always the couple's desire to return to Washington State upon retirement. However, the couple settled in San Jose, CA after 1994, where Peggy resided at the time of her passing.

After the couple had their two children, Peggy went on to become a teacher - an occupation she enjoyed and excelled at for approximately 16 years. She loved children and was passionate about educating our youth. Peggy was an incredibly dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. She took great pride in raising her two children, providing a strong foundation of love with solid values and a moral compass. Peggy was an immensely devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and she was very supportive and proud of the achievements realized and endeavored by her husband, children, and grandchildren. She cherished the close-knit relationship with her sister, Betty, and she was a caring, loyal relative and friend to who all who knew her. Peggy cultivated lifelong friendships and placed tremendous value on the relationships she nurtured. In short, Peggy was a bright, charismatic heart who loved her family and friends very much.

Peggy had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid reader of a wide range of both fiction and non-fiction literature. Her reading interests included everything from contemporary true crime and fictional thrillers to classics such as Shakespeare. Peggy was also very active in politics and enjoyed following current events. She loved the movies, enjoyed a myriad of film genres, and eagerly anticipated the Academy Awards event every year. Peggy also loved music and the arts in general. She learned to play piano at an early age and continued to play throughout her entire life. Peggy instilled a strong appreciation for the arts in her children as well. Her other interests included baseball, video games, and spending time with her three grandchildren.

Peggy is survived by Douglas Burr, her husband of almost 42 years; her son, David Burr; daughter-in-law, Robin Burr; daughter, Stacy Norton; son-in-law, Michael Norton; grandchildren, Kelsey Giosso, Katie Giosso and Rowen Burr; sister, Elizabeth Mays; brother-in-law, Kirby Mays; nephew, Christopher Mays, and his wife Courtney Mays; and her niece, Jennifer Mays. Peggy is predeceased by her sister, Cathy (Elzarian) Lee.
