Patsy Chu Sui Tai Toy was granted her angel wings on June 10, 2010. She passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with lung cancer. She touched many lives with her gentle spirit and positive outlook. Her final days were spent with her family in the place of Welcome Home Assisted Living Board and Care Home, Dublin, CA.
Patsy was born on September 13, 1945 in Hong Kong, China to her Mother, Leung Lok Ching, and her Father, Paul Chu Yick Tan. Patsy worked as an auxiliary nurse in Hong Kong prior to meeting the love of her life, Ronald Poy Tong Toy. Patsy and Ron were married on October 16, 1972 in St. Margaret's Church at Happy Valley in Hong Kong. Their marriage was a true love union and the couple was married for over 37 years.
Patsy first emigrated to the United States of America to live in California on February 1973. Patsy and Ron settled in Oakland, CA, where they raised their son, Daniel. Patsy worked for the Oakland Unified School District from 1980 to 2010 for 30 years at Franklin Elementary School as a Cantonese Bilingual Clerk until the cancer intensified and led to her stricken illness that began in March 2010. She enjoyed home decorating, baking/cooking, reading, festive holidays, travel, shopping, gardening, watching Chinese movies and karaoke music, and especially spending time with family and friends.
Patsy is survived by her loving husband, Ron; her son, Daniel, and his wife, Bao Anh; sisters: Chu Sui Chow, Katherine Chu Tin Kwan Kwok, Emily Chu Sui Ming Ng, Diana Chu Shui Ying; brothers: David Chu Kue Cheung, and James Chu Yau Chang; and two grandchildren: Joshua and Jeremy.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents. Her greatest gift lies in the legacy she left behind. She was a truly special person: kind, gentle, intelligent, constantly loving, respectful, trustworthy, honest, continually teaching and caring. Commitment to family was a trademark of her life and in her final few short months, this was evident in such as, "I can't leave; I have to take care of my grandchildren." Her oldest of two grandchildren was lucky to not only call her, "Grandma," but a close friend. Patsy had led a well-lived and a honorable life. While she will always be just away, we know she lives on in all she taught us through love, joy, hope, faith and belief. For this we are eternally grateful.
Patsy Chu Sui Tai Toy's Memorial Service and Inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park in the Chapel of Roses, beginning at 10:00am on July 17, 2010.
