Norm was extremely kind to a cub reporter when I started at the Mercury News in 1970.  He was a good reporter, always had a smile and something nice to say. He was a gentleman to all, from copy clerks to the publisher.
My thoughts are with his family.

My condolences to Norm's family.  He connected me to my job at the SJMN and was always available for a friendly chat over the years.

Norm and Virginia were the salt of the earth and wonderful parents and neighbors.  We grew up with their kids, playing kick-the-can on the street, and doing what neighborhood kids do.  Bowman's Flowerland was our go-to place for flowers.  Having Norm on our street as Mercury News business expert made us feel special and well-informed.  As young people in the business world, Karen joined us in working at Frontier Village, where we all mastered our own business skills. Norm was a great guy and we all felt comfortable around him.  The world has lost a news icon.  Our community has lost some vision without Norm to guide us.  Our hearts go out to the family.  God Bless.
