"Ba Ngoai" Them was a loving grandmother. Her name Them means "extra" and she was indeed a special addition to her family. Youngest in a family of three boys and four girls, she was very well-loved. Them lost her parents at a young age and learned to fend for herself. She became fiercely independent throughout her life. She and her husband Chan Do made a family with two daughters. Like other Vietnamese living through multiple conflicts of war, members of the family got separated but were reunited in 1997. Them lived in Milpitas happily for the rest of her life.
Ba Ngoai was proud of her family. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Nguyen is survived by her loving children, daughter Do Bich Lien and son-in-law Duong Trung of Hayward; Do Bich Nga and son-in-law Dao Cong Dan of Fremont. Her spirit is also carried on by her by her loving grandchildren: granddaughter Lesly Duong and her husband Tu Pham of Dublin; grandson Ninh Duong and his wife Trang Duong of Fairfield; grandson Quang Duong and his wife Christine Jovellana of Castro Valley; granddaughter An Dao and grandson Khang Dao of Fremont; and four beloved great-grandchildren: Natalie Pham, Ben Pham, Jacob Duong, and Corinne Duong. She also will be missed by her Duong Van Nam in-laws, who became her real family for more than five decades.
Them was a sweet and kind woman who lived her whole life looking after her loved ones. She was truly the family matriarch. Ba Ngoai is very much loved and will be greatly missed.
Her family finds solace that she is reunited with her parents and siblings, her husband Chan Do, and in-law Ly Thi U.
In her memory and in lieu of flowers, a donation to charity is suggested. Memorial donations may be made to Pho Tu Temple.

Nam Mô A Di Đà Phật.
