Resident of San Jose
Mary Rose Crowley, born April 24, 1926 Mary Rose Schirle, passed away peacefully with family by her side on September 4, 2013 at age 87. Born and raised in San Jose, Mary received her education at Notre Dame High School and San Jose State University. She met her husband, Bill Crowley, while working at See's Candy. It was a ten-pound courtship for Bill, and a sweet love affair that lasted 65 years. Bill and Mary could not be separated even in death, as Mary passed just 14 days following Bill. Together they raised 9 children.
Mary Rose will be fondly remembered for her good-natured, kind, gentle ways; fun hospitality; and love of her family. She was a devoted loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mary was a devout Catholic and had a special appreciation for the Blessed Mother. She cherished her grandchildren and enjoyed many years creating wonderful festive family holiday celebrations, traveling the world, playing bridge, attending sporting events of children and grandchildren, and vacationing at the family home in Aptos. Mary especially looked forward to her annual birthday weekend getaways with her daughters.
Family and friends were always at the center of Mary's life, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her children Michael (Cathy), Mary Jo (Jim), Tim (Lise), Dan (Joan), Kevin (and the late Dawn), Sheila (Pete), Sean (Lisa), Maureen (Mark), and Colleen, 21 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
