Mary Lourdes André was born to the late Antonio and Olympia Bettencourt on May 19, 1933. She was a family matriarch, leading cosmetologist, world renowned colorist, stylist, watercolor artist and proud American; Maree is missed by many. She passed away on December 17, 2022 surrounded by family.
Maree resided in San Jose, California, she was blessed with a large and loving family. She raised four children, Pierre A. André, Robert L. André, Jay W. André and Anna M. Reali. She was a loving grandmother of 10: Jessica M. Woodfin, Joey E. Zumwalt, Rachelle M. Best, Christina M. Zumwalt, Janelle M. Reali, Robert C. André, Jack L. André and Grant P. André, and great grandmother of Zack D. Woodfin and Blake R. Woodfin. She is survived by four of her seven siblings, Evelyn, Tony, Dolly, and Louie.
Maree was born on the family ranch in Livingston, California. She then moved to Santa Clara and attended Santa Clara High School where she went on to earn her degree in Cosmetology at Sullivan College. Years later, at 58 years old she earned her Teaching Credentials at the University of Santa Cruz. Maree became one of California’s most renowned hair stylists and colorists in her field. She was an amazing mentor to young and upcoming stylists for over 60 years. Maree was famous for her salon André and Co. that she successfully ran out of her home for over 40 years. Maree managed the salon and gave amazing cuts and colors to close friends and clients up until her passing. Maree’s home and salon were a special place for many people to visit. Her doors and her heart were always open to others.
Maree was known for wearing her big red framed glasses - her signature look. She was an extremely beautiful woman inside and out with fantastic style and class. “Cool” was how many people described Maree. She had an aura about her that everyone loved.
Maree had a wonderful life; she was an amazing mother, mentor and true friend to all those who knew and loved her. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 22nd, at 1:00pm Oak Hill Memorial Park 300 Curtner Ave. San Jose Calif 95125. Closed casket visits will be held beforehand beginning at 11:00am.
