Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.oakhillfuneral.com for the Atlas family.
Mark Atlas, “Pa”, was born January 24,1931 in San Jose, CA, and passed away October 11, 2023. He grew up on Atlas Ave in San Jose and lived there until he married. He met the love of his life, Miriam, in 1950 and they were married on April 4, 1954. Mark joined the family business, Atlas Auto Wreckers, in the late 1940s. There, he worked with his father, brother, and son until his retirement in 2001. Mark was active in the community as a member of Temple Emanu El, San Jose Elks Club, B’nai B’rith and was the Commissioner for the JCC softball league for many years. He served his country in the National Guard from 1948-1957.
Mark had many interests. He loved to play softball, and played until 2019 in the Vintage League. He was an avid bodybuilder, went to the gym daily, and loved to play poker. He enjoyed being in the backyard, building stairs to nowhere.
Wherever he went, “Pa” either knew somebody or would know their life story within minutes. He was generous, kind, and had a huge heart. He always offered food to anyone who came to his home. Giving to family and friends of all ages gave Mark much joy. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by father Ben Atlas, mother Frances Atlas, and brother Don Atlas. He is survived by his Wife, Miriam, his Children- Fran Lara (Ron) and Steve Atlas (Lisa). His Grandchildren- Greg Lara (Melanie), Jacob Atlas (Danielle), and Aimee Hubbard (Brad), and his Great Grandchildren- Levi Atlas, Remington Hubbard, Cheyenne Atlas, Madelyn Lara, Citori Hubbard, and Gabriella Lara. A very special thank you to his caregivers Martha, Cathy, Lisa, and Larry.
