Maria was born on February 25, 1940 in Agoo, La Union, Philippines. She was the youngest of ten children of Sixto and Geronima Tabora.
Maria immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1970’s. Her first employer in the U.S. was Hewlett Packard and later, Agilent. She worked at the same company for at least 35 years, until her retirement. She and her brother, Anthony, bought their first house in the Berryessa neighborhood in 1979.
“Auntie Mary,” as she was fondly called by many, including non-relatives, was a devout Catholic. She always started each day by going to mass at her parish church, St. Victor’s Catholic Church. She also enjoyed an active lifestyle. She loved to travel and had visited several countries in Asia and Europe since her 20’s. Her most memorable trips were the religious pilgrimages to Fatima, Lourdes, Rome, and Medjugorje. But her most favorite trip was going back home to visit her childhood home in Agoo, in the Philippines, where she loved to meet up with childhood friends and enjoyed the local fresh seafood. She also loved to cook and gladly shared her specialty dishes at family gatherings. Upon her retirement, she volunteered for several years at San Jose Airport and at Regional Medical Center.
Maria will be sorely missed by her brother and best friend, Anthony, sister, Teresita, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Visitation for Maria will be held on Monday, 19 December 2022, 4-8 pm, with prayer vigil at 6 pm, at Chapel of the Roses, Oak Hill Memorial Park, San Jose, CA. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, 20 December 2022, at 10 am, at Saint Victor’s Catholic Church, San Jose, CA, followed by burial at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
