Joseph was born in Mexico on March 7, 1924. He came to America as a young boy with his family in search of a better life and became a U.S. citizen through the naturalization process at the age of 23, something he was very proud of.
Joseph “Tony” met his one and only true love Audrey in the mid-1970s. They were married on February 25, 1984. Together they raised their 3 daughters and were married for nearly 34 years until her sudden and unexpected death on December 31, 2017. After the untimely death of his beautiful wife, Papa was just never the same; he prayed for the day they would be joined together again.
Early on Joseph was nicknamed “Tony” after a co-worker inadvertently introduced him as “Tony” one day; he thought it was funny so he never said anything, thus his nickname “Tony” was born. Tony worked as a Carpenter for most of his life, first in Southern California and then later in and throughout the Greater Bay Area. In 1993 “Tony” retired after 38 years of service with the Carpenter’s Local 316 of San Jose at the age of 69. “Tony” was a very hard worker who never missed a day of work. He was the first to leave home in the wee hours of the morning and the last to return home in the evening. When not working for his employer, he could be found working around the house or at one of the rentals. He lived a full and happy life. He was both a proud father and grandfather who inspired those around him to work just as hard as he did (one way or the other!).
Joseph “Tony” was preceded in death by his wife Audrey, his daughter Michelle, his parents Ramon and Arcadia, his brother Jess and his sister Lupe.
Joseph, or Papa as he was called by those who knew and loved him dearly, will be lovingly remembered by his two surviving daughters, Tawny and Sheila, 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, his sisters Josie and Marie and many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held for Joseph “Tony” or “Papa” at Oak Hill Memorial Park
