Remembering John last weekend was both hard and enlightening. He was always known as the cheery guy with a smile no matter what the day was looking like. He has been a great boss and mentor.  

Just got the news! John & I went through the apprenticeship together & my wife & I went to his & Chandra’s beautiful wedding at the Hayes Mansion.  Last time I saw him was 2011 when he was teaching the STAR Class. Very sad news. My best to his family. 

It’s two months since John passed we think of him often.

First met my friend John in the mid 90’s when he was working for Cal Air during our surgery center build out and we hit it off right away.

Through the years I followed him as he moved to different companies on the path to opening United Comfort Solutions.

What amazed me is he would always take my call and was happy to offer remote troubleshooting no matter where he was… even dispatched his brother to help when he was away.

Humble and talented with family being his biggest joy best describes John.

A few years ago John stepped back a little saying time is going by so fast, the kids are growing up and I don’t want to miss another minute together.

Some might remember Christmas a few years back UCS gave out small live Christmas Trees with lights…

Mine has thrived on the patio and last year I came home from Christmas Eve midnight mass and saw glow on the porch… the tree which had not been illuminated for years and never new batteries was lit up…!

Texted John with a picture and we both agreed a Christmas Miracle…

My condolences to all of John's family and friends. I have worked with John now for nearly 20 years as he and his staff provided service on behalf of Danfoss. He was a great service partner to us but more importantly a great human being. We had many conversations over the years about his family, and faith and I will continue to pray for his family.

Our brother Owl will be missed, but not forgotten!  Thank you Brother for all the good you brought.  

I have been working with John 5 days a week for 3 years at UCS so there is a great void in our daily routine. The team is sadden by the loss of our great colleague. From his uplifting messages in our daily check-in often telling the team to have a “pleasant day” to his really goofy and funny dad jokes. Overall, he is a gracious person and has always believed in “family first”. It is surreal that we have lost John but he will always be remembered as a giving, loving, and kind person who looks out for the people he cared for.  

John and I shares countless adventures, these are treasured memories. The two that stand out the most are Philmont 2019 and The Lost Coast 50 miler in 2014.  He caried that smile everywhere he went!

From Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts, John was always there. We are so blessed that his family shared him with us. His presence in out lives has forever changed all of us for the better.

I am fortunate to say that not only did I know John Hopkins, but also worked with him in the field. I worked with John while we were at Cal Air. Knowing John, you can always count on him to be there to take a late call or work a long weekend. John always gave of himself to others , in this photo, we worked on a project after long days at work for a foreman retreat. John always made everyone around him better and he will be missed not only by me but by many others. 

Never one to pass up a challenge - especially when it involved scouts - John joined Austin S and Alex G in a 1lb Fuddruckers burger facedown.  While I don’t recall the winner,  it was a fierce competition among 3 serious eaters. 

John was always a big supporter of the Pinnacles  outings.  Although he usually helped lead the hiking group he was never one to miss out taking his turn rappelling.    Can't let the Scouts have all the fun!!

I have many great memories of John from Scouting - working together as T286 Scoutmasters,  the fun and enthusiasm he always brought to meetings and outings, his first trip to Yosemite, backpacking the Ventana Double Cone, rock climbing/hiking at the Pinnacles, and of course he and Gavin capsizing their kayak in Elkhorn Slough (fortunately, close to shore).

~Our Last Family Photo Together~

I've known John for many years.  We worked together back in the Cal-Air days.  Later we were both instructors at the Pipe Trades Training Center.  John's sense of humor was great, and I always enjoyed conversing with him.  I have many fond memories of interactions with John from the early days, through group work outings, and beyond through being fellow instructors.  Learning of John's passing was, and still is, very difficult to explain...other than it left a heavy mark on my heart.  My prayers go out to John's family and friends...and John.


John helped so many people during his time at the training center.
His legacy will live on forever.

I could always count on John to add bit of sunshine to my day.  He always came into the training center with a smile on his face, ready to teach.  John never saw a problem without also seeing a solution.  He was the friendliest, most reliable instructor on staff during my tenure at PTTC. 
We’ve lost a great instructor and example to our apprentices.   I know his family has lost a wonderful man and father.  Peace to you all. 

John was a smart, kind, and generous instructor at Pipe Trades Training Center. He was an absolute pleasure to work with. I will miss him and his passing is a huge loss for our local.
